Neela is pregnant

Today, Neela is 39 days pregnant after the first mating and 37 days after the second.

Mating went smoothly and quickly. Ryko is a gentleman and the couple seemed to like each other very much. After that, we waited for the results. Pretty quickly, Neela started showing signs of pregnancy, but I didn't dare to trust the signs very much, because the "signs" of false pregnancy are exactly the same. The first clearer sign was that Neela wasn't interested in being active and playful during outdoor time. Neela was struggling next to my heel, although it would have been possible to run a little further. On top of that, Lily started to be quite annoying in Neela's opinion and Neela has kept Lily in pretty tight control. At some point, Lily began to ask Neela for care and consider herself a little puppy as well. At that point, I thought pregnancy was likely.

Neela's appetite disappeared for almost two weeks and the dog was clearly nauseous. We had to find ways and tricks to sink the food at least a little. This resulted in a slight weight loss. I am monitoring the waist and weight development on a weekly basis. The picture below shows statistics.

The pregnancy ultrasound was just a formality, where we went to make sure that the puppies are coming. The ultrasound showed 4–5 puppies. The number will be confirmed at the same time as we go to have the herpes vaccination booster. We agreed with our vet that we would take an X-ray just in case. Perhaps more for the owner's peace of mind, I can then prepare better for the litter delivery. During the sixth week of pregnancy, the appetite has returned, but the dry dog food on offered is not good (Neelas opinion). I went to buy a puppyNeu as a test and it has been working so far.

The Christmas holidays have had time to prepare for the arrival of puppies. It might turned out that I had to open the design software on my computer and start drawing the puppy box. The husband built the box according to the instructions, and result was very good. So far, neither dog has been interested in the box.

The next update here on the blog will be after the puppies are born. Let’s wait this!
